Going beyond the Dukes into the rest of Hazzard County

hcc news hedderknytes phootenotes hedder

To get to the foundation of this entry, a short as I can reintroductory of the club’ history must be done here.

In the fall of 1980 , at the point that our rural hot rod shop opened we as just a scattered bunch of kountry gearheads decided on a car and theme, for the 1981 Salt Lake City AutoRama.

Instead of the grand General Lee, we thought lets do ours as the General Jackson. After all there was an episode done on General Jackson or observing him rather than good old Robert E.

So we decided that beyond the car we would do up a grand display. In looking for a pair of white go-go boots to put on the mannequin for the car hop at Hoggs Happy Hamburgers, I found a partly completed duplicate of ye old General Lee. $1,500.00 later the car was in Hagerman, Idaho afterwerds called Hazzard.

That was the year I got to meet Skip Ward one of the producers of the Dukes, who came on that tour with the studios Gen,Lee. Along with Daisy. After the show in 1982 a conference call was made from Hazzard, since as a shop we knew to gain business we had to unify our gearheads. The club would provide a customer base, the shop would be there to meet it.

About the second night that I was at the 81 Autorama, I realized , I damn sure did not look like Bo or Luke Duke, but resembled in all too many ways both looks wise as well as vocationally. So with that conference call, and agreements all around, the Hazzard County Garage(the real one) was opened in April 1982. But what about the club. We met 4 times before the final name, but at the time there was another club in Pocatello called the Squires LTD car club. Hey we were better than the Squires. At the same time there was a major film running, in fact the same one that gave me the idea of white go-go boots rather than Roller skates, for car hops. The film was,

Then tragedy came. In March of 1983, my mom who had been suffering with COPD for nearly 20 years passed away. Here’s where this love of things Hazzard gets personal.

It was not our community, or the predominant religion of the area that came to my comfort, but the cast or at least some , not only sent cards and calls of condolences but actually came to the funeral. All the way here just to put their hand on my shoulder. Give me a shoulder to cry on, and all. So did the club. After as much as I gave to our town, only the Hazzard Nation came to my side. And this was before the Internet.

Okay then. The club quickly decided that to get the word out about the goings on about the club, a printed thing for and of Hazzard Life was needed. So the real Hazzard County Gazzette(mis-spelled on purpose) was created. Then there was the episodes co starring my cousin Richie Montgomery as the DJ on the only radio station in Hazzard WHOGG AM 10/90. Thought was, if it worked on TV in Hazzard, it’d work in real life for OUR Hazzard. So in February KDOH(Dukes-of-Hazzard) Radio AM 10/90 officially signed on the air. Confederate, fight the system radio had hit the religiously conservative and restrictive community, and surrounding area including where our Boars Nest was at in West-Point Idaho. As soon as I get a computerized picture taker I’ll show you, as it still is standing.

Over the years KDOH, gained an FM at 105.3 KTOW, and a companion station KDXB FM 105.7 in Strevelle Idaho.

But how to expand on this and go even larger?

Shortly after Viacom and Gaylord Broadcasting who owned TNN(now Spike) and CMT bought the broadcast rights to the Dukes, our illustrious broadcaster Howard Stern, did a movie, called Private Parts. Howard was smart. What he did was a two hour major motion picture that was little more than an historical look at his career and infomercial to promote his then syndicated radio show.

The Hazzard Knytes said we can do that. So we began working on a feature that would show the history of the club, and give the radio show/station a boost. Showing life beyond and aside the fabled cousins Bo & Luke Duke.

As I speak some of the final pieces of the script are just now coming together. Why the delay? My service in the USMC, as a pilot. 4 marriages, internal disputes , many still going on to mom & dads money, my estate . Just to name a few.

The idea though is sound, no pun intended, to make and take that idea of Gy Waldron and expand it to being more than just Bo & Luke Duke. After all there is the rest of Hazzard County. That Hazzard County is made up of the:HAZZARD KNYTES LOGO.

So where did the Wolf thing start?

That in my next report.
